This is a NEW SERIES called THINK LIKE A SCIENTIST. Critical thinking is buzz word teachers are very familiar with. It’s been a component of education for decades and yet… there’s still a lot of debate about what it really is and how to best teach it. There’s only one thing I know for sure – to be a scientist you MUST think critically. There is no option in a scientist’s life where critical thinking is optional. So I thought to myself – how can we better prepare kids for science? Seems like an obvious answer.

But that’s not all there is to it. Not every kid wants to be a scientist. Not every kid even LIKES science. So we can’t depend on science to teach this stuff.

Unless… you combine science with all the language arts. Reading, writing, and developing the ability to pick and choose the right information when presented with intimidating information.

INTRODUCING THINK LIKE A SCIENTIST.

Can you teach someone to think critically? Or is this some innate skill only a few can hope to possess? Some people are born great at something and some have to work hard at it. Whether your students were born to think like a scientist or not, they CAN learn to think critically with practice.

The Think Like A Scientist Series is the practice they need. Deliberately crafted to challenge learners in all the cognitive levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy (Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, Create), this daily two-week course will challenge your students to stretch their understanding of the world, take a second—longer—look at things, be patient with themselves, and finally, form an opinion on a topic outside their comfort zone using newly acquired knowledge.
